Izane Muirgane

Meet Izane Muirgane, previously a librarian at the Cabinet of Curiosity, now a creature with a mission. If you want to start RPing with Izane with a minimal of spoilers in regards to what she is or her backstory, click the button below!

During The Everlasting Day, people speculated on whether Izane Muirgane ever left the library; no matter what hour one turned up, if the words passed your lips that you sought some old book or little-known manuscript, she would materialize like a book-based dryad and offer assistance to your search. While there were other librarians, none could match her knowledge of the ancient and unknown. Her eccentricities and fierce possessiveness of her stacks were easily written off as the price one must pay for knowledge such as hers.

And she would have probably continued so indefinitely. Until the night returned.

A benefit to being a gatekeeper of knowledge was, of course, that you could filter what knowledge you permitted to slip between your fingers. Few, save she, ventured into the deepest part of the stacks, musty with the dust of decades and the figments of forgotten knowledge.Knowledge that became legends. Legends that became myths. And for a world drowning in light, the faerie tales of the night faded from the stories people told their children. That adults whispered about around the dinner table. The terrors of the darkness gave way to the nightmares of the light everlasting, where you could behold your monsters clearly under a sky of unwavering day.And then the night returned.

It would have been easy to stay at the Cabinet. Easy to remain in the Crystarium. Easy to forget what she had spent the last century ensuring the world forgot. But with the return of the night came a realization, and a sense of duty.To ensure some things remain forgotten. Forever.

Gameplay Details

- Izane is sensitive to characters that are aetherically bent towards light or darkness.- If your character can sense dark aether or aetherical compositions, they can sense Izane has a bit too much dark aether.- If the information exists in the Cabinet of Curiosity she has probably some knowledge of it (she has spent a long time in it)The below two points clarify two points regarding Izane's nature and expectations around other players' knowledge of it.- I use the word "Nightkin" to describe Izane. The use of the word "Nightkin," while it also appears in the Red Mage storyline, is not meant to be similar at all, although it's entirely possible the Nightkin in Izane's lore also have a distant as-yet-unknown tie to the 13th.- Considering Night hasn't been a thing for a hundred years and the vast majority of mortals who lived before the Flood are dead, I'd expect, if your (Norvrandt native) character knows about the Nightkin, they have a good reason for it (i.e. family history or have a specialty in knowledge of mythical creatures)

Information

At first glance, Izane appears to be a normal employee of Cabinet, from her mud-green robes to her wire framed glasses. And for most...this persona is the only version of her they will know.A little deeper: Izane Muirgane would be called a vampire on any world other than FFXIV; she needs blood to survive, but thanks to the knowledge she has gathered in the Cabinet of Curiousity, she knows enough to create super-potent alchemical potions that are useful in staving off the inner beast when necessary. However, due to the rare ingredients and intensity of the process, she still prefers to feed normally, saving the potions for extreme situations. She will appear in daylight with her skin covered; although this will increase her hunger levels faster, she considers being able to be outside worth it.She knows that the prolonged exposure to Light, even in protected areas, drove others of her kind insane, monstrous beasts who struggle to return to human form; now that night has returned, they are free to rise and wreak havoc. Izane is determined that the myths and legends of creatures who flew by night drinking blood remain just that, a relic of stories from before the Flood fading into oblivion. She sees the others of her kind as a threat that will jeopardize this new world.

Pre-Flood History

(For the most part, this has no basis in official lore, but I believe there is enough leeway to not actively contradict it.)Izane was born into a High House in a distant city named Ngarla, which resembles Radz-a-han/Thavnir in terms of color and terrain. An only child of disinterested parents, she turned to books for companionship at a young age, as well as her Amaro Saberlily, and the head of the Amaro stables, a young Drahn-Galdjent woman named Cassana.Ngarla, in addition to being run by the High Houses, had a secretive, more hidden ruling body named the Night Council, comprised of Nightkin representatives taken from the High Houses. Izane learned about the Night Council on the night of her eighteenth birthday, when she was turned into a Nightkin by her betrothed and forcibly inducted into the world of the Night Council, a pawn in the political scene.22 years later, as the growing threat of Light threatened to engulf the world and annihilate the Nightkin as a whole, Izane traveled to the Cabinet of Curiosity (or the library that would later be so named) seeking answers to stay the coming apocalypse. While she was there, the Flood struck, and Izane found herself fleeing to the lowest floors possible, where she remained for the duration of the Flood.

RP Hooks

Some suggestions for hooks, but I'm certainly open to more!~You drop by the Wandering Stairs for a drink or a bite, and end up sitting with a very chatty librarian. Do you drink wine?~You overhear someone investigating tales of the odd or unusual, especially around disappearances. You have such a tale or know of one to share.~You are investigating a string of particularly vicious murders, and you encounter Izane investigating the same.~You seek rare and estoric knowledge from the Cabinet of Curiosity, and the people there suggest Izane would know how to find what you are looking for.

Notes

~If you want to RP a "getting bit" storyline I am open to it, but I will not assume you want that without prior OOC discussion.~I am especially interested in mutual long-term stories and character development with other characters if they mesh!
